Virgo
Virgo
(1 vote)"Virgo often gets a poor astrological report. The poem on the left typifies the critical, hypochondriacal tendencies dwelled upon by those that define the sign as pedantic, frigid and shrill. But this is a sign of rare understanding with discerning mental vision and it is only by applying such Virgoan traits that we see beyond the dross to recognise the Maiden in all her glory. According to the ancient sources the gifts that she bestows are purity and grace; a charming turn of phrase, diplomacy, a mastery of words; a discriminating intellect and propensity for study; a talent for investigation and analysis; skilful creativity, and a keen appreciation of the mysteries of nature. Burdened by bashfulness in their early years, Virgos often undermine the value of such admirable qualities, shunning attention whilst holding a remarkable capacity to be comfortable in their own company. Was the Virgo really a Virgo?
"In Many Moons, a delightful children's story, James Thurber narrates the hidden wisdom of the court jester over that of the academic. Indeed, the court jester, inspite of his physical and/or emotional deformity, is nothing if not creative, innovative, flexible and challenging. He uses humor to dress up his prophetic foolery. [1] We could say that astrology has been and is the court jester. On the other hand, philosophy prides himself as the king, while theology prides herself as the queen. There is an irony here. Utilitarianism, the basis of positive economics and much of modern philosophy, violates the first and second commandments. " |

Teachings of the Virgo Season:The Better Angels of Our Nature
"I had prepared a very long, very political article for this month’s column, and while I really liked a lot of the material, I decided in the end that it didn’t really sound like me. But then, lately I don’t sound like myself a lot of the time. I grew up as a fairly apolitical person, and I never expected politics to play a significant role in my life. I was the type of person who rolled her eyes when environmentally conscious friends debated the relative merits of plastic vs. paper grocery bags. So it’s kind of shocking to find myself, at middle age, feeling so…well, political." |

THE RADICAL VIRGO
"Virgo is the last sign before we come to Libra, the Other. We cannot give ourselves without first possessing Self—that is the lesson of Virgo. Pisces is the last sign before we come to Aries, the Self. The Pisces lesson: Until we lose ourselves, we cannot value ourSelves. How to make these seemingly circular ideas make more sense than two fish swimming in opposite directions? Let’s look to the Chiron myth for hints. Pisces is Virgo’s “shadow.” (I prefer the term “recessive sign,” which can incorporate both its light and dark traits.) If the Virgo affiliation with Chiron is lit up now, it is probable that the Pisces parts of the Chiron myth have been the most overlooked to date by astrological writers. " |

Virgo The Principle of Discernment and Boundaries
"Element-Earth Quality-Mutable Symbol-The Virgin Sun Sign Dates-August 24 to September 23 Planetary Ruler-Mercury Natural Zodiac Affinity-Sixth House Virgo has a mission. The mission of Virgo is to separate what is useful from that which is not useful. This is called discernment. This is a sign that needs to feel a sense of usefulness and purpose. Someone needs to create order from chaos. They've earned a reputation for being too critical. Don't take their criticism personally. Everyone and everything is subject to the same scrutiny. Those who are comfortable in chaos will not last long around Virgo. Their perfectionist drive comes from their innermost being. They may seem picky and uptight to other people but the reason why Virgo can get so uptight is because theirs is a never-ending job. There is always work to be done and so much of it is not fully appreciated by other people. Remember, Virgo has a large contribution to make to the world. Do you want your dentist to be a slob? Do you want to sleep on unchanged sheets in a hotel room? Do you care if the cook washes his hands? Virgo has taken on the job of worry and concern over the everyday duties that actually make life liveable in so many unseen ways. Virgo is the civilizing effect on mankind. " |
