Progressions
Progressions in Astrology
(2 votes)"One of the many astrological topics which needs clarification and a more revealing and significant approach is what is usually called "progressions" — or secondary progressions. According to textbooks being studied today, it is possible, by considering the positions of the planets each day after birth, to foretell at least some of the basic events that can be expected each corresponding year after birth. The basic principle is that there is some sort of correspondence between the daily cycle of the earth's rotation around its axis and the yearly cycle of our planet's revolution around the Sun. The moment of the "first breath" of the human organism establishes, as it were, the person's permanent individual character underneath all subsequent changes; this is the birth-chart. But changes are incessant after birth. " |

Computations for Progressions
"1 Day for 1 Year". This is the phrase generally used in reference to the way which astrological progressions are computed. It is the basis for the calculation of a progression according to the procedure employed by us. The life of every human being on this earth is geared to earth's two cyclic movements, which are it's daily rotation on it's own central axis and it's yearly revolution around the central point of the Solar System, the Sun itself plus its movement through the Universe as a part of our galaxy. The day-cycle is the most basic period as it refers to the alternation of light and of darkness. It is determined by the rising and setting of the sun. The year cycle deals with seasonal changes and it is measured by the change in position of the setting, (or rising), sun, south and north of a middle position which is the equator." |

THE SECONDARY PROGRESSED MOON
"The Moon moves around the earth in an orbital cycle and in doing so reflects the light of the sun in an ever-changing relationship. At the same time, the earth is orbiting the sun and our view from earth of this orbit is the apparent path of the sun across the Ecliptic. We have then, two interrelated cycles of moon's path and Sun's apparent path. These cycles synchronise from our perspective on earth. The changing relationships are known as lunar phases. From New Moon to New Moon, the Moon goes through eight phases in the 29.5 days it takes to complete this cycle. This is known as the Lunation Period. The Moon orbits the earth in an easterly direction. Beginning with a New Moon, approximately one week later it is 90 degrees East of the sun (square or first quarter). Approximately a week later it is at 180 degrees (opposition, or full moon) and a further week later at 270 degrees (closing square or last quarter) " |

THE SECONDARY PROGRESSED MOON IN ASTROLOGICAL COUNSELLING
"If you look at any date in the Ephemeris, you will notice that the Moon travels at a much greater speed in a day than do the planets. The Sun, Mercury and Venus all have similar speeds. This is because of the proximity of those bodies to each other. Mars travels at a lesser speed while the outer planets move only fractionally. If you look at the Solar system in relation to the Sun, the orbits of these bodies and their distances from the Sun (as centre of the Solar system) explains the variation. The Moon of course orbits the Earth and does so in 28 - 29.5 days. Its relationship with the Zodiac is therefore quite different to that of the planets and is tied to the earth - representative of the reality of self at an unconscious level." |

Secondary or "Solar" Progressions
"According to the principle of this type of progressions today by the most commonly used — what occurs in the sky during the day following birth gives us symbolic information concerning what can be expected to happen during the first year of actual living. The positions of celestial bodies 48 hours after the birth-moment thus symbolize the biopsychic condition of the infant as he or she begins a third year of life. The astrologer finds out what the "progressed" positions of all the planets will be when the client has passed his or her twenty-first birthday by looking for them in the ephemeris for the year of the client's birth, 21 days after the actual day of birth. The usually stated formula for such progressions is "one day in the ephemeris equals one year of actual living."" |
