Business and Financial Astrology
A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE
(1 vote)"Right on cue, just as Saturn reaches its maximum tension in its cycle with Neptune today, the headlines screamed 'Market Meltdown'. This cycle has long been associated with economic collapse and although the term collapse might be too strong in this case, I firmly believe this heralds the start of a turning point in the economy. I was interested, in view of my previous post on this cycle, to see the problems began in China. A 9% drop there triggered the domino effect. Interestingly for all sky watchers, computer glitches also contributed to the fall on the Dow yesterday- Mercury Retrograde in action." |
Does a Lunar Cycle Affect Market Averages?
(1 vote)" This is an abridged version of a study that was conducted in 1994. The purpose of this paper is to derive a cycle relating the lunar cycle to an equity average. This cycle will then be evaluated for its profitability versus a buy-and-hold strategy. The results may be of interest to short-term traders with an interest in cyclic analysis. Those who seek a causative link might consider the following. Serotonin is the substance in the brain of a homing pigeon that sensitizes the bird to the earth's magnetic field, allowing the pigeon to 'home in.' The field itself has been shown to fluctuate with lunar and solar influences. Nelson's work demonstrates a relationship between all of the planets and solar activity. Serotonin exists in the human body. The substance was neglected until biotechnology companies recently took an interest. Perhaps this is the link. The Link to Markets In John Murphy's text, Technical Analysis of the Futures Markets, he writes, "There is another important short-term cycle that tends to influence most commodity markets- the 28-day trading cycle. In other words, most markets have a tendency to form a trading low every 4 weeks. One possible explanation for this strong cyclic tendency throughout all commodity markets is the lunar cycle. Burton Pugh studied the 28-day cycle in the wheat market in the 1930s and concluded that the moon had some influence on market turning points. His theory was that wheat should be bought on a full moon and sold on a new moon. Pugh acknowledged, however, that the lunar effects were mild and could be overriden by the effects of longer cycles or important news events." John McGinley, writing in Technical Trends, once mentioned that Arthur Merrill conducted a study of market behavior around full and new moons and found no strong correlation. More recently, the February 27,1994 issue of Mark Liebovit's Volume Reversal Survey stated that he had noted a correlation between the lunar cycle and Federal Reserve actions. Chris Carolan, noted for his work with the Spiral Calendar, has achieved some success with a lunar-based forecasting system. Indeed, many older societies utilize a lunar calendar. Our own calendar year is based upon the movement of the earth around the sun. Those technicians who rely upon the annual cycle (the average percentage change in the DJIA from January 1 to December 31) are looking at an astronomically based cycle. " |

An Overview of Business Astrology
" There are eleven different schools of astrology, which, listed in no particular order are: natal, compatibility (or synastry), horary, electional, business, mundane (or judicial), medical, weather forecasting, rectification, event and esoteric. Often there is very little to tie these schools together, except that each, in some way, and with generalized rules, uses a chart or diagram of the planets in space around an event. These schools have little to do with techniques, such as traditional (20th century) western, progressions, Greek, Medieval, Cosmobiology, Vedic, midpoints, Uranian, astro-drama, Moon phases, Sabian Symbols, planetary pictures, etc. Techniques and schools are two totally different ideas. Schools define areas of practice, while techniques refer to methods used within various areas of practice. Business astrology is unique within the schools because it has two distinct and separate parts: consultation about business problems or questions; and also, market forecasting. Often when a person refers to their practice as "business astrology" they mean either one of these parts or the other. In truth, the parts really have little connection with each other.Consultation about business problems or questions involves having an understanding not only of various natal astrological techniques (chart reading, transits, progressions, Medieval ideas, etc.), but also of business practices. It does little good to consult with a business person who has profit in mind, when the astrologer does not understand the nature of the business. Often, questions which arise in this area involve sound business practice: should I take out a loan at this time from this bank; should I fire or hire an employee; should I move to this building; etc. Confronted with every day business questions like these the astrologer is relegated to discussions of timing. Yes, this is a good time for your business to expand (or contract); No, Tuesday is not a good day for approaching the bank about a loan; etc. Astrology can give wonderful insight into the timing of such events, but without some in-depth knowledge of contemporary business practices an astrologer can not be an effective operational consultant. Astrology of Peak Oil: The Drake Well sunrise chart, Part I
"For all the ink and pixels that have been dedicated to Peak Oil, very little has been written about petroleum’s role in our collective unconscious, and the spiritual context of the rise and decline of industrial civilization. I would like to offer this rudimentary astrological assessment as a gateway to begin that conversation. I am not a professional astrologer. I am not skilled enough in the art of astrology to predict specific events or to give advice regarding what actions one should take at specific times, nor have I found astrology to be particularly useful toward these ends. But I have found astrology to be very useful for discerning context. Astrology has the power to reveal the archetypal complexes in play for events we experience on the ground. Identifying these archetypes and the nature of their interactions can untangle webs of dysfunctional behavior, and provide the building blocks to create new visions." |

Astrology of Peak Oil: Part II, facing our demons
"In Part I of the Astrology of Peak Oil series, I sketched out how the trauma of humankind’s move, from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle in the forests to a farming lifestyle on the plains, impacted our collective unconscious, and how this trauma and repression are reflected in the Drake Well sunrise chart’s eleventh, twelfth, and first houses. Part II looks at the far side of the chart, where we find planets of transcendence and healing standing in opposition to those planets representing our collective shadow. These planets (and non-planets) give us a clue as to what we can do to overcome our compulsive, societal behavior, and give us hope that we will not only survive collapse, but also to transcend those patterns which have brought us to this point." |
