Understanding and Directing Solar Return Energies Part One: How to Interpret Your Solar Return Chart Ascendant

'I prefer to think of the Solar Return Chart in the same way I do the Natal Chart, which is that it does not determine outcomes or destinies in an inflexible way, but instead serves to highlight the ENERGIES available to you in the form of opportunities and/or frustrations that we can choose to take advantage of and navigate to the best of our abilities.  We are not victims to fate, but living, conscious beings with power to direct our lives by the choices we make.  In this post, I would like to focus at how to interpret your own Solar Return (SR) chart with a mind towards

The Sun

Sun's placement designates the hour, which is the basis for the calculation of the Solar Return (SR) chart. Yet, in that chart the Sun may be weak by sign, house or aspects, involving insignificant issues. This is the reason why I gave priority to the SR Asc (see previous article). Nevertheless, the Sun worths our consideration as follows.

Reading solar return

Solar return (SR) must be interpreted in the same manner as the natal chart. Arranged according to their importance the interpretative elements are: (1) Ascendant (2) MC (3) Sun (4) Planets (5) Several rules.

Solar return

Solar Return (SR) is a chart of heavens, annual and anniversary, cast for the hour when the Sun returns to its natal position, in other words to the same degree and minute of longitude that occupied on birthday. Solar return is an additional tool which aids in determining the time when the events forecast in the nativity must be accomplished. The most important tool is, of course, the primary directions in which one degree of longitude equals one year of life. SR cannot announce events that are not indicated in the nativity.

Andrea Argoli:On the good and bad health according the solar Return of the year

"Andrea Argoli, born in Tagliacozzo in 1570 is very famous for his book about primary directions, the Tables of the primum mobile,  (from which I took the picture )

Jupiter of SR in the Houses of the Solar Return

"It’s a fairly important element of the SR: it tells where you’ll find your main resources during the twelve months to which the Solar Return refers. You’ll see that the help of Jupiter will be crucial for the overall result for the year. Jupiter may give you a helping hand both in a propulsive way (it gives a trump card for a precise play) and by acting as a kind of guardian angel (it restrains the damage of a certain situation). Yet, you should keep an eye on the way Jupiter ‘works’ in the following three Houses: the second, the seventh, and the eighth.

Where should we domificate the Solar Return?

"What is the place for where the Solar Return is cast? The place of birth or the place where the native actually is on the very moment of the Solar Return?

Secondary Progressions: The Clock of Life Ticking Away

"The astrological calculation techniques of directions and progressions, which take the fixed karmic imprint of the natal or event chart, and move it forward or backward through time, both real and symbolic, have been used by astrologers for centuries to either predict the future, understand the past, or gain perspective about the present.

My View of Solar Returns

"Here are my opinions about solar return charts. I do want to make it known that I was not raised to run solar return charts. My first astrology teacher, Press Roberts, felt that all prediction could be garnered through a combination of progressions and transits. He dismissed solar returns as being a waste of time, as they were just transits anyway. My current teacher, Noel Tyl, doesn't like solar returns because he had some unfortunate experiences that resulted from too much stock being placed on a solar return that was predicated on an erroneous assumption.
