On the Ascendant: Moon Rising

Contradictions- that’s what this aspect is all about. The moon conjunct ascendant is a sign of emotional tension in a person; longing to be close to people, but keeping them at arm’s length out of fear. Distant and reserved on the surface, but burning to be social and feel included in life. People with the moon on the ascendant wear their heart on their sleeve and yet will hold back from any emotional demonstrations until they really sense the other person feels the same way (whether in romance, friendship, or simply mutual admiration).

The Rising Lens

So often in consultation with clients, I have found that the ruler of the Ascendant — its sign, house and condition — highlights an important storyline, an important thread that weaves its way throughout life development. Many times it allows the astrologer within minutes (if not seconds) to get right to the crux of the matter, to the heart of a very relevant theme within a client’s identity development.

Astrological Physiognomy: Empirical Tests of the Leo Rising Decan

A test of methods for predicting the shape of the face based facial models of John Willner (1991) and the rising decan (Hindu decans).  Majority of examples support the Sun’s sign and not the Sun’s season as the contributor to physiognomy.  Study raises questions on inclusion of Sun’s season in temperament models as recommended by Ptolemy. Thirty-six examples.  Horoscopes sourced from Astrodatabank; no rectified charts used.  57 pages.

Astrological Physiognomy: History and Sources

A comprehensive literature review of astrological physiognomy from the Greco-Roman period to the present day.  Includes works canonical to the non-astrological physiognomy tradition beginning with the pseudo-Aristotelian Physiognomica (3rd Cent BCE). 71 pages.

Soul Portal, Your Astrological Rising Sign

"Anima mundi means the soul of the world, and in ancient thought it was believed that our souls enable us to dream. When we dream we enter another world, one that seems real to us at the time. This dream world has its own rules and regulations, and its own logic. We can go back in time, and flash-forward into the future. We have an unlimited ability to fly, swim, transform ourselves, and in essence we, and the people and objects in our dreams, can shape shift at a moment’s notice.
